Friend of the show, David Buck, wrote in with parody lyrics for How Deep Is Your Love by the Bee Gees.   A run in with a credulous waitress left him thinking “we’re living in a world of woo.”   Great job, David!

Cristina offers up a segment about diamonds this week and so, Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend had to be the parody.   The Marilyn Monroe performance from the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is iconic.

Cristina’s did a segment titled “Things Women Couldn’t Do Before The 70’s” on this episode and Darren suggested a parody of the theme from “That 70’s Show.”    Seemed like a good idea!    The theme song is actually a snippet of Cheap Trick’s cover of the Big Star tune “In The Streets.”  Shout out to the excellent documentary about Big Star.

Darren took 6 weeks off to travel Indochina.    Though the crew persevered without him,  it was good to have him back in the host’s chair this week.   What better reason for a parody of the 70’s T.V. show theme Welcome Back Kotter.

Elan rejoins the show as a special guest host after leaving the show last year.   What better reason for an opening parody song do you need?   This week My Boyfriend’s Back by the Angels gets ‘Dubrofskied.’

Cristina discussed Gwyneth Paltrow’s silly advice about steaming your ‘v’ on the show this week. This lead to a parody of Salt-N-Pepa’s Shoop subbing in the lyric ‘Goop’: a reference Paltrow’s woo-filled website.

Cristina posted an interesting video by Chilly Gonzales to the TRC facebook group.  The video breaks down Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off‘ and explains why it is such an ear worm of a pop song.   What better reason to have the song be this week’s parody?

Drake’s ‘Started From The Bottom‘ is the parody this week.   Pat is not one to brag about the podcast.   He often refers to TRC ‘the little podcast that could’  however, with recently passing the 2,000,000 downloads milestone, breaking the top 10 in science podcasts on iTunes and being featured as ‘what’s hot,’ it was time for just a little tongue-in-cheek bravado.

Since this week’s show had four dark segments about death, it seemed fitting that the equally dark and beautiful Fairytale of New York be the parody in the style of The Pogues and Kirsty McColl.   Many sources call this the ‘greatest Christmas song of all time.”   Pat is inclined to agree.

In an attempt to get enough material for the annual parody show, Pat and Cristina have been on a roll!   This week it is “Bootylicious” by Destiny’s Child reworked as “Skeptilicious.”
